Our answer to the perfect Thursday night if you're a culture lover who is baffled by gender equality. Presented in partnership with After Hours.
2 spaces / 3 practices. Start by jumping into the screening of "Play Your Gender" which explores the question: 'Why aren't there more female producers?' Let's unpick the boys club that pervades the music industry.
PLAY YOUR GENDER: Juno Award-winning musician Kinnie Starr is on a quest to find out why only 5% of music producers are women even though many of the most bankable pop stars are female. What does it take for a woman to make it in music?
After, go Down / Under. The subterranean gallery provides a much-needed platform for local Sydney artists, and will present a curated selection of video and installation media focused on gender + performance by local female/gender fluid artists.
Head upstairs for drinks and beats, ft. a showcase of pioneering women in electronic music. Dance your way into the night with some of Australia's finest musical female talent, featuring Vetiver (Previously Moon Holiday), P Twiggs, Heart People and Andy Garvey.
Freda's is not your average bar. You can grab a cocktail, listen to live music, get down to funky beats or see installations by local artists. Laid back and unassuming, Freda's has a welcoming, creative vibe and is the perfect space for both Sydney's creative community and anyone just looking for a bar like no other.
